Temperature & humidity monitoring

Continuous, asset-by-asset temperature and humidity readings 24x7. Humidity matters as much as temperature when you store produce, baked goods, or pharmaceuticals - and most legacy temperature loggers ignore it.

What you actually see

For every cold-chain asset, the dashboard shows:

  • Live temperature at the standard reporting interval.
  • Live humidity (the ChillSense Sensor measures both on every reading).
  • Historical chart with selectable time ranges (last 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, custom).
  • Configured safe range overlay, so an at-a-glance look tells you whether the asset is operating within plan.
  • Battery and radio signal for the sensor itself, so a quietly-failing sensor cannot impersonate a healthy one.

You do not need a separate dashboard per asset. The same multi-site dashboard rolls up per-area and per-site totals, and lets you compare two assets side by side when you suspect one is misbehaving.

How the hardware does the work

Component Role
ChillSense Sensor Measures temperature + humidity inside or beside the asset.
ChillSense Hub Collects readings over a low-power wireless link and streams to the cloud.
ChillSense cloud (Australian-hosted) Stores readings, runs alerts, generates reports.

One hub typically covers all assets in a small or medium kitchen; large or multi-zone sites simply add a second hub. See how it works for the full architecture.

Retention - two years of raw, longer for aggregates

Three retention bands give you fast queries today and longer-term trend visibility:

Bucket Retention What you use it for
Raw readings 2 years Audit detail, incident investigations, fine-grained trends
Hourly aggregates Indefinite Multi-month dashboards and trend lines
Daily aggregates 5 years Multi-year operational reviews, regulatory archive runs

Raw retention is generous on purpose - HACCP audits routinely ask for the previous 12 months of evidence, and stock-loss investigations frequently want the previous quarter at full resolution.

Sensors, areas, assets - structured the way you run the business

ChillSense groups the data the way a manager already thinks about it:

  • Site - a physical location (e.g. "Perth Warehouse").
  • Area - a zone within a site (e.g. "Cold storage", "Front of house").
  • Asset - the actual fridge, freezer, or cool room being monitored, with its own friendly name (e.g. "Display fridge 2").

Sensors are assigned to assets. If a sensor dies or moves, the history stays with the asset, not the physical sensor, so you can swap hardware without losing the audit trail. See Using the dashboard for the day-to-day mechanics.

Designed for the conditions that matter

Condition How the sensor handles it
Walk-in cool room (high humidity, cold) Operating environment, not edge case.
Freezer (-20 °C, condensation cycles) Protected electronics, long battery life at cold temperatures.
Door-slamming display fridge Debounce logic in the alert engine prevents brief openings from paging you.
Metal racking blocking signal One hub typically covers a kitchen; trouble spots get a second hub.

Useful with what you already have

  • Your existing fridges and freezers. Sensors are placed inside or beside the asset; no appliance modification.
  • Your existing food safety plan. Continuous data and reports drop straight into the plan as evidence.
  • Your phone. Mobile-friendly dashboard for the manager; mobile-friendly action pages for the staff who only need to handle alerts.
