A typical aged-care residence deployment
A 60-100 bed aged-care residence is usually 6-12 cold-chain assets:
- 1-2 cool rooms in the catering kitchen.
- 2-3 prep / line fridges.
- 1-2 freezers.
- 1-2 nutritional support fridges (depending on resident profile).
- 0-2 ward medication fridges.

What aged-care providers tell us matters
Single-pane auditability
A single dashboard view of every cold-chain asset across the residence, plus auto-generated monthly HACCP PDFs, replaces a binder of paper logs that nobody fills in consistently. When an auditor turns up unannounced, you open the dashboard, generate the PDFs they ask for, hand them over.
Audit trail integrity
Every alert has an audit-trailed incident log: who acknowledged, when, what corrective action they picked, what notes they added. Nothing is overwritten — the trail is append-only. For ACQSC and state-regulator engagements where "show me the records" requests are routine, this matters.
Usable without training
Aged-care kitchens have higher staff turnover than the average hospitality kitchen. The mobile action page for incidents is deliberately login-free: a casual kitchen-hand who arrived this morning can action an SMS alert in 30 seconds without ever having been trained on the platform.
Medication fridges and vaccine cold storage
Where ChillSense covers a pharmacy or vaccine fridge, the deployment is essentially the same as a food fridge — sensor inside the asset, paired to the same hub. The differences are:
- Tighter thresholds. Medication fridges typically require a narrower 2-8 °C band; vaccine cold storage may require 2-8 °C with much tighter excursion tolerance.
- Faster escalation. A medication fridge breach typically pages a clinical contact in addition to the catering chain.
- AI drift detection is especially valuable. A pharmacy fridge whose average is creeping up is a more serious signal than the same drift in a kitchen fridge — the AI engine flags it earlier and at a higher severity.
- Longer report retention. Some health authorities require multi-year retention; the platform's daily aggregates retain for 5 years, raw for 2 years.
We do not currently certify the platform under TGA-aligned device classification for cold-chain medication management; the platform is a monitoring layer with audit-grade record-keeping, not a primary control device. For full TGA-classified vaccine cold-chain management, talk to your pharmacy supplier about an integrated platform — ChillSense is appropriate as a supplementary monitoring layer.
Compliance scope and what we don't cover
ChillSense is designed for cold-chain temperature and humidity monitoring with HACCP-style record keeping. It does not cover:
- The non-cold-chain CCPs in your food safety plan (cooking temperatures, plated-meal hold times, hand hygiene, cleaning).
- Clinical observations or care records.
- Medication administration records (separate from medication-storage temperature records).
- Pest control records.
Your existing food safety plan and your existing clinical record system continue to cover those; ChillSense is the cold-chain evidence layer within them.
